Mobile app: Nike+ Coach Feature Motivates Runners with Customized Training Plans

Latest update to the Nike+ Running app for iPhone helps prep runners for a 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon from start to finish.

Runners from beginner to advanced level seeking training support for an upcoming race or goal—a comprehensive training plan, a personal coach, plus ongoing motivation to help them make it to the finish line—need look no further than the Nike+ Running app on their iPhones.

The latest, iOS-focused update to the popular running app includes Nike+ Coach, a feature that offers runners training plans for four different distances (5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon) at three different levels (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced), using programs that leverage Nike's coaching heritage and insights from top runners.

Nike+ Coach functions seamlessly within the Nike+ Running app.  To get started, runners can specify their race date, name and distance, as well as the level at which they wish to train. They will then receive a customized training plan with run workouts, cross-training recommendations and recovery days built in. If runners enter a race date, the plan automatically builds to this goal date.

To keep runners on track, Nike+ Coach provides run reminders and daily workout instructions, and compiles weekly progress reports with stats on average pace, miles logged, NikeFuel earned, and total workout time completed.

Runners looking for extra motivation can also share their training programs and performance updates with friends and family across social media. Anyone who successfully completes a Nike+ Coach running program earns a digital trophy.

The English-language app update is available today, and localized versions will follow for the iPhone in January 2014.

Since its launch in 2006, Nike+ Running has provided runners the chance to track, measure, share and compare their runs with a global community, helping inspire athletes to run smarter and run more. Today, the Nike+ community is comprised of over 20 million members worldwide, who together have logged over 1 billion miles
