Skechers GOwalk® Activity Monitor Launches to Mainstream Consumers at CES

Deer Park, NY  December 19, 2013
Sports Beat USA, a leading developer of heart rate monitors, activity trackers and equipment circuit boards for fitness enthusiasts today announced an exclusive licensing agreement with the Skechers Performance™ Division to produce and market the Skechers GOwalk® Activity Tracker/Sleep Monitor. The chicly-styled wearable device will launch to mass market retailers throughout the United States in January, and can be seen at the Sports Beat booth (# 26415, South Hall 2) during CES in Las Vegas beginning Tuesday, January 7, 2014.

The Skechers GOwalk Activity Tracker/Sleep Monitor consists of an easily wearable wristband with built-in computer chip that pairs with a companion smart phone app. Easy to use, with a price point well within reach, the Skechers GOwalk Activity Monitor is a smart solution for mainstream consumers seeking a simple, easy and affordable way to track and improve their fitness performance.

“Skechers has received numerous awards for its innovative performance footwear lines. This reputation and global brand identity affords us a tremendous opportunity to distribute our technology to mainstream consumers in a simplified, easy-to-use platform,” said Lou Dionisio, president and CEO of Sports Beat.

“Our Skechers GOwalk footwear has been an incredible success for us around the globe and we’re excited that we can leverage the power of this brand with Sports Beat’s proven technology to expand our position into wearable fitness devices,” said Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS. “We feel that this is a logical next step for the Skechers Performance Division that solidifies our position as a go-to brand in the walking, running and fitness arena.”

The Skechers GOwalk Activity Monitor connects wirelessly via Bluetooth to Apple iOS and Android devices to help users easily track steps and movement, distance covered, calories burned, plus hours and quality of sleep. Users have instant access to a complete dashboard of daily activity and fitness metrics through their smart phone or tablet devices. The Skechers GOwalk Activity Monitor features a stylish, one-size-fits-all soft silicon band that can be worn all day, coordinating with virtually any type of athletic or casual apparel and is comfortable for sleeping through the night. Users select daily goals and are encouraged by a series of indicator lights that encourage them to reach higher levels of activity. Data from the dashboard can be uploaded to users’ Facebook and Twitter accounts for sharing, making the user experience more fun and social.

The Skechers GOwalk Activity Monitor is the first commercially available fitness monitor to distinguish between running and walking. This provides users with greater granularity and a more accurate measure of fitness level. It is available in the widest range of standard wristband colors of any activity monitor on the market today. Plus, an additional palette of wristband color options will be available for custom order. The Skechers GOwalk® Activity Monitor will be mass distributed through health clubs, specialty stores, and e-tailers and retailers including Amazon.com, The Sports Authority, Big 5 and QVC beginning January 7, 2014.
