Business news : SIA Ski Market Overview Preps Industry for 14/15 Season

Washington, DC (December 12, 2013) -- SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the snow sports industry’s member-owned trade association, has published ski-specific resources to prepare buyers for the decisions they’ll have to make at the SIA Snow Show, January 30-February 2, 2014 and the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest at Copper Mountain Resort (Feb. 3-4).

The SIA Snow Show represents 98.5 percent of the Alpine supplier market and 99.7 percent of the AT/telemark market. More than 99 percent of the supplier market share is represented at the SIA Show for Alpine, freeski and backcountry hardgoods, softgoods and accessories. With nearly 1,500 models of skis on the market, more than 300 of which are for youth, 1 in 5 skiers exploring backcountry terrain and freeski sales and participation on the rise, it is a big job for buyers to know they’re getting the right skis for their shops. The SIA Snow Show is the only opportunity to see the complete ski lines for next season in one place and at one time.

“The Snow Show is the only time when the entire North American Winter Sports community gathers in one place,” said Tim Petrick, SIA board chairman and president of global marketing, sales, sales at K2 Sports. “For retailers, it is the best chance to select the product assortments that will make their business a success. For suppliers, it is a chance to meet with 80+ percent of the total purchasing power of the North American wintersports market. The Snow Show is a hugely efficient sales event and to have it occur in Denver, Colorado – a city that truly welcomes us each year that is an easy distance from some of the best skiing in the world – is pretty fantastic.”

SIA’s videos set the stage for the state of the ski category by strategically examining the category’s past and future. The recently released Alpine State of the Industry video with the most current data from SIA Research gives buyers a comprehensive understanding of what North America’s 8 million+ skiers bought last season and summarizes data-supported trends. Armed with an understanding of seasons past, the SIA Snow Show video helps buyers get the most out of the product launches, relationships and educational opportunities at the Show.

“We attend the Show to get a head start on our preparations for the coming season,” said Todd Atkinson of Buchika’s Ski & Bike in Salem, NH. “The Show affords us the ability to gather all the information we need to begin the buying journey. It also allows us to converse with fellow retailers whom we normally would not be in contact with. Our contemporaries can be a valuable pool of knowledge for trends and success stories.”

The Curated View of Ski provided on SIAsnowshow.com/curated is also a helpful overview of the national and regional category trends going into the SIA Snow Show, with a visual overview of what’s selling and what you need to know about the average snow sports participant.
It also helps buyers dial into Show features that will expand their understanding of the category:
  • Backcountry Experience exhibit
  • Awards
  • Ski-specific seminars
  • Rental World/Backshop and Uniform Gallery
  • On-Snow Demo ski events like the Uphill/Downhill Challenge
The annual SIA Snow Show is where influential and visionary snow sports brands connect with leading retailers, resorts and media to unveil their latest innovations, exchange ideas and build relationships that shape the industry.

Member-owned, industry-inspired and dedicated exclusively to snow sports, the 2014 SIA Snow Show is scheduled for January 30-February 2, 2014 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado followed by the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest at Colorado’s Copper Mountain Resort from February 3-4, 2014.
