Business news : France's Decathlon Chain Ekes Out Comps Gain in 2012

French sporting goods giant Oxylane reported sales reached €7 billion($9.0 bn) in 2012 excluding valued added taxes (VAT), up 7.2 percent from 2011. Comparable store sales at its Decathlon stores increased 1.3 percent.
 
On a currency neutral (c-n) basis, Oxylane's sales increased 8.8 percent, while Decathlon’s comp store sales increased 1.1 percent.
 
Oxylane earned 43.5 percent of the revenues in France, where sales reached €2.79 billion ($3.6 bn), up 4.7 percent (2.7 c-n). Decathlon.fr, the company’s primary e-commerce channel in France, reached profitability as sales increased 43 percent. Decathlon opened 57 new stores in 20 countries, including its first store in Taiwan.
 
Oxylane operated 653 of its 736 stores under the Decathlon banner as of Dec. 31, 2012. Oxylane operates 10 retail banners and several cycling, apparel, pack and other sporting goods brands.
